A warm welcome to all of you to the 10th edition of Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest)!

In the beginning of this year, we were very sure to stage the biggest edition of JiFFest yet. Along the way, reality hit hard. Global financial crisis and difficulties in raising fund forced us to scale down the festival to become a five-day event, instead of the usual ten-day festivity. All the hassles show that it is never an easy feat to put on an international scale event like JiFFest.

However, the next five days will be acknowledged by film enthusiasts around the country as an essential event. First of all, JIFFest will still present established programs with selected quality films. Apart from World Cinema section, featuring hit films by big names, we are still screening A View from the SEA, a section that was initially introduced to JiFFest audience last year. This particular section will screen films from South East Asia region that have captivated many programmers of film festivals around the world, such as Wonderful Town, My Magic and Tribu.

Next, JiFFest also notes the growth of Indonesian film industry by screening ten highest grossing Indonesian films in the past ten years. This celebration will also be followed by discussions, featuring a variety of speaker consisting of filmmakers, government and film critics.

Another highlight in this year’s festival will be the gala premiere of new Indonesian films. They are Under The Tree, a documentary by Garin Nugroho, Drupadi, a short film by Riri Riza and At Stake, a documentary produced by Nia Dinata and directed by several young talents. Let us not forget the winners of last year’s JiFFest Script Development Competition and workshop (Traffic Jam by Tam Notosusanto, The Last Journey by Endah WS and The Visit by Erwin Indrawan), and also Tales from Jakarta, documentary films from Goethe Institute workshop.

This year also marks the line up change of board members of Yayasan Masyarakat Mandiri Film Indonesia, the organizer of JiFFest. As our final words, let us, Ditta Amahorseya, Adiyanto Sumardjono and Eric Sasono as the new board members of YMMFI to introduce ourselves and deliver the festival into your hand.

Have a fun festival!
